Sismo do Haiti, so was entitled to disaster on 12 January 2010 that totaled more than 80,000 deaths and devastated the cities affected, including the Cathedral in Port au Prince.
This proposal was developed for the international contest held by dioceses of the United States of America.

Like the old building’s design, the traditional Latin cross, inherited from the Paleochristian Era, is the floor plan of the project.

“Four rivers of the paradise” flow from the ends of the building to the altar - the center of the liturgy – crafted with lines that refer to a vessel, illustrating the maritime culture of Port-au-Prince. Above the altar, the Cross - the tree of life - is bathed by the rising sun through the original rose window, lovingly inherited from the old facade.

Aside, the Ambo rises to the proclamation of the Word, wrapped around the wings of tetramorph.

The apse, was prepared to receive the holy chapel. To its extremities, in addition to the reconciliation chapels, the sacristy and the administration hall, we have the “Chambre Archeveque Mgr Joseph Serge Miot”, who is a memorial to both the earthquake, and the old Cathedral.

At the entrance, the atrium makes the transition from profane to the sacred, and soon we found the first sacrament materialized in the baptistery.

The tower that brings the good news and invites us to the Ecclesia - as the cross nailed to the ground - has the meaning of the clear intention to evangelize and unite the people of God around the body of Christ. It also gives access to a lookout over the ship, that culminates in the image of Christ crucified, also inherited from the ancient Church.

The compositional principle of the pillars and arches follows a rereading of gothic patters.
